"Árbol" Project / "Tree" Project
2011/2016
To learn more about trees, I began to draw them life in my atelier's garden.
To understand their living structure, so different from ours, and to learn about their existence as living beings and how they interact with us.
Each tree drawing is different: after ones I did in the garden, I began to draw them in a nearby forest. As my interest increased, I moved to live among them in a house at a forest clairier. While some of these drawings took me a year to finish, others just took me a few months. I started to travel to find some singular trees, drawing in Barcelona, Sant Cugat del Valles, and Órrius, in Catalunya; Assisi in Italy; Vollezele in Belgium.
Respect is a key word in "Tree" project. I just look at the tree as long as it is necessary. Each day I arrive in front of it with nothing that a pencil, paper sheets and eraser. I try to not disturb at all and I leave without trace of my presence.
I give them the colour of emotion they produce in me.

"Encina Raíz"
2013
Life drawing.
Pencil on paper.

This oak shows very clearly its main root connection with the trunk, which usually remains hidden underground.
It is the picture of a tree and its connection to Earth, drawed in the forest of Can Borrell, next to Sant Cugat del Vallés, Catalunya, during the months of January, February and March 2013.
It is at once a realistic picture, and a metaphore of our own family roots, that nourrishes and sustain us even though they are not visible.
Why I turned it red, refers to blood that gives us life, and to our vital connection with trees.
